Afternoons in Fann

Updated: Jul 9, 2022

Hey guys! It's been quite a while, hasn't it? I've been enjoying my summer - spending time with family and friends, and doing things that bring me joy. Life's been a little hectic lately, but in a good way :).

I hadn't blogged in forever, and I definitely missed it. Shooting some content in Sénégal this summer was on my to-do list, and I'm glad I found the time and inspiration to do it.

Fann is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Dakar. I find it so peaceful, aesthetically pleasing, and it's pretty close to downtown and other places, which is super convenient.

I'm usually in the area often because some of my friends live there, which is why I'm a bit surprised at myself because I've never had a photoshoot there but hey, there's a first time for everything!

What's even funnier is that I drive or walk on this street all the time, but I never realized how great of a backdrop it would be for photos.

I had been meaning to scout locations in the city for my summer content and I guess the universe was just telling me to go with this area.

I was actually grabbing brunch with a friend down the street at Maison Kayser (great place which has a terrace overlooking the ocean) one day and to digest, we slowly walked down this road. That's when I really had the time to take it all in - I was like wow, this is simple but there's something so calming and pleasing about it. On top of that, there's flower trees all around it's beautiful.

As you can see in the photos, the streets in Fann are colorful. I kept that in mind when planning this look. I wanted to create a nice contrast so I decided to wear an all-black outfit with brown-toned sandals to match the neighborhood's earthy tones.

I paired my pants from H&M with a pleated Issey Miyake top. Miyake is one of my favorite brands and I got the shirt recently so this was the perfect occasion to wear it.

What I liked the most about this look was how I could move around pretty freely. That's always important to me when I'm in Dakar because my days get busy and I want to make sure I can look good but also still be comfortable.

Thank you for reading! Have a great week!

Love,

Penda
