There is something incredibly peaceful about being by the beach. Being by/in the water is something I'll always love because of how calm and aligned it makes me feel.
This is the "Mosquee de la Divinite" (Mosque of the Divinity) beach. It lies near the shore and gives you a perfect view of the Atlantic Ocean.
The mosque was built in 1997 and is recognized as an important point of interest for travelers and tourists. Because of its location, the space is also shared with many fishermen, who catch fresh fish, sell it, and can cook it right in front of you! I was lucky enough to meet some of the fishermen and get to know them. They were some of the kindest people I've met and it was nice to see them at work and better understand how their fishing process works.
We all got along well so of course, we took some shots together :). That's what I love about Senegal, everyone is so welcoming and makes you feel at ease.
What you can't see in these pictures is that I was trying so hard to keep a straight face haha, because they were all making funny jokes and complimenting my outfit!
Speaking of outfit, this dress has become one of my staple pieces!
It was actually a fabric that a friend gifted to me and I asked my tailor to make into a dress that I could wear casually/for everday occasions. Gifting fabrics to one another is common in Senegal (sidenote, I need to make a post about the fashion scene in Dakar!!).
The colors of the dress are beautiful and the motif is very original. On top of that, it's super light so you can really do anything in it!
I also love the way the dress contrasts with the colors of the pirogues (small boats). By the way, it was really hard to get into those pirogues haha but hey, I did it!
Once the photographer and I were done hanging around the beach, we decided to explore the area. We found this beautiful tree near the entrance that takes you down to the mosque.
It's funny because I've been to this mosque/beach hundreds of times but I've never noticed the tree. I guess it was a good reminder that there is beauty all around us, we just have to pay close attention.
Thank you for reading! Wishing you all a blessed Friday.
With love,
Penda
